Medica Foundation Provides Funding
for Health Projects in Carlton County

MINNEAPOLIS, January 29, 2007 — The Medica Foundation in its second cycle of funding for 2006 made a $74,653 grant to Carlton County Public Health and Human Services for its Prenatal, Postpartum, Well-Baby Mental Health Program, which provides home visits for at-risk new mothers and babies to foster secure attachment between mother and baby, help mothers overcome postpartum depression and encourage parenting that optimizes healthy physical, social and emotional development of children.

“The Medica Foundation recognizes the need for preventive and behavioral health services throughout Minnesota,” said Rob Longendyke, executive director. “We are pleased to be able to provide this much needed funding and look forward to working with our partners on these much needed services in Carlton County.”

In addition to the Prenatal, Postpartum, Well-Baby Mental Health Program , the Medica Foundation provided $30,000 in funding to a project serving the area -- The Early Childhood Mental Health Initiative. It creates a strong network of local, regional and statewide services to support the healthy social and emotional development of Minnesota children ages 0-5.

In 2006, the Medica Foundation provided $1.5 million in funding for projects throughout the state, including several that address access to preventive and behavioral health services in rural Minnesota.
