Giving Guidelines


Prioritization/Review Criteria
Funding will be directed toward initiatives that:
  • Are true innovations in how health care is delivered
  • Have a high likelihood of creating systemic change which in turn will increase sustainability
  • Address social issues which drive health care costs and reduce health care disparities
  • Build partnerships and collaborations between Medica and other community organizations and/or that build collaborations between community organizations
Who We Fund
Non-profit organizations that are 501(c)(3) legal entities or governmental agencies are eligible to receive funding.

What We Fund
The Medica Foundation considers only single year grant requests. Organizations are not eligible to receive more than one grant within a calendar year.

Where We Fund
Funding is provided to organizations within Medica’s service area in Minnesota, Western Wisconsin, North Dakota and South Dakota.

Western Wisconsin counties include the following: Ashland, Barron, Bayfield, Burnett, Chippewa, Douglas, Dunn, Eau Claire, Pierce, Polk, Sawyer, St. Croix and Washburn.

What We Do Not Fund
  • Capital campaigns/capital expenditures
  • General and/or ongoing operational support
  • Long-term financial support
  • Projects where other viable funding sources are available
  • Religious groups for religious purposes
  • Lobbying/political purposes
  • Projects in which administrative expenses exceed 10% of the total grant
  • Sports events and athletic groups
