Medica and Mayo Clinic Expand Relationship
Members to Gain In-Network Access to Mayo Specialists, Facilities in Rochester

MINNETONKA, Aug. 17, 2007 — Medica and Mayo Clinic announced that they have expanded their relationship with a multi-year arrangement that provides a portion of Medica commercial members with in-network access to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, an integrated multispecialty clinic, and its two hospitals, Saint Mary’s Hospital and Rochester Methodist Hospital.

Under the arrangement, effective September 1, 2007, a number of Medica’s commercial customers will have access to Mayo Clinic in Rochester for covered health care services at the maximum in-network benefit level. Medica and Mayo Clinic are committed to measuring and achieving excellent clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction under this arrangement. Both organizations anticipate that Medica will expand access to additional members in the years to come. In the meantime, Medica members should call Medica customer service with questions about their benefit levels at Mayo Clinic in Rochester.

“We are excited to expand our relationship with Mayo Clinic in Rochester so that our members have access to Mayo’s team approach to diagnosis and treatment and specialty care,” said Mike Lenz, Medica’s vice president of network management. “We anticipate that this arrangement will add great value for our members.”

Medica members with in-network benefits at Mayo Clinic in Rochester likely will seek care at the organization through a recommendation from their primary care or specialty physicians. Most Mayo Clinic in Rochester patients – regardless of payor – access the organization’s sub-specialists in that manner.

This arrangement is in addition to the existing relationship between Medica and Mayo. Mayo Health System currently is an in-network provider for nearly all of Medica’s commercial and senior members. Mayo Health System is a network of clinics, hospitals and other health care facilities serving more than 60 communities in Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin.
