Taking an extended vacation? Heading south for the winter? The Extended Absence Option is a great way to take your Medica Prime Solution medical and prescription drug coverage with you when you are away from the Medica service area for up to nine consecutive months. It allows you to use your benefits for non-emergency services with physicians and hospitals that are not part of the Medica Prime Solution network . This option can only be used for travel within the United States.
Whenever you are away from home, remember to take your Medicare and Medica Prime Solution ID cards with you. If you plan to be away for less than 90 days, your coverage continues and you do not need to activate the Extended Absence Option. But, if your vacation outside Medica's service area will be longer than 90 days, call Medica and tell us when you plan to be out of the service area and for how long. In doing so, your benefits will be covered exactly as if you received care at home.
- Emergency care anywhere in the world
- Urgent Care (non-emergency) anywhere in the U.S.
- Annual physical or other covered medical appointments anywhere in the U.S.
- Prescription fills or refills (if you have Prime Solution Part D coverage) anywhere in the U.S.
- This coverage option is available to you for nine consecutive months at a time
- You must call Medica Center for Healthy Aging to activate when you travel out of Medica's service area more that 90 days
- If you forget to activate the option prior to your departure, call as soon as you remember
- Dental benefits are not portable, so Medica Senior Dental services are not available outside the service area
