Medica Responds to COVID-19 (as of 5/26/2020)

In this time of uncertainty, Medica is working hard to respond to the challenges of COVID-19. Our members, their health and wellbeing is always our priority, particularly now as we all navigate through a pandemic. We have supported members, customers, communities and care partners in a number of ways:

Support for our members

  • Changed coverage and cost share for COVID-19 testing and treatment to ensure members can access needed care
  • Suspended prior authorization requirements for admissions to a post-acute care setting
  • Suspended the need for new physician’s orders, face-to-face visits or medical necessity documentation for the repair or replacement of durable medical equipment (DME)
  • Relaxed our prescription refill requirements to allow members earlier access to some medication
  • Reminded Medica members of the 90-day supply retail and mail order home delivery benefit options
  • Waived in-person, in-network primary, specialty and behavioral care office visit copays for all Medica Advantage members for appointments completed between June 1, 2020 through December 31, 2020
  • Extended premium payment deadlines to allow Individual and Family Plan members more time to make their payment and ensure they could continue to access the health care and medications they need
  • Contacted members at a greater risk for contracting COVID-19 to provide resources
  • Provided a supply of facemasks to members at greater risk of contracting COVID-19

Support for our communities

  • Donated facemasks to community partners and long-term care facilities to help ensure the safety of their employees
  • Delivered emergency financial grants totaling $1.2 million to organizations that focus on child and family support, clinics and shelters, mental health and general disaster relief
  • Donated camera-enabled laptops to help organizations meet the demand for telehealth services
  • Donated computers and monitors to the nonprofit organization PCs for People, which refurbishes and provides equipment for those in need
  • Transitioned Medica employees to work-from-home to help keep our teams and their families healthy

Medica DUAL Solution® and Medica AccessAbility Solution® Enhanced are health plans that contract with both Medicare and the Minnesota Medical Assistance (Medicaid) program to provide benefits of both programs to enrollees. Enrollment in Medica DUAL Solution and Medica AccessAbility Solution Enhanced depends on contract renewal.
