When you need help with life's challenges — whether it's personal, financial or legal concerns — call the Medica® Optum® Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for timely, professional and confidential help.

How the Employee Assistance Program Can Help

Master's-level specialists can help you find answers and resources to tackle the tough issues you and your family face. This service is available at no additional cost to you, as part of your benefit plan. Your call and conversations with EAP specialists are kept confidential, in accordance with the law.

EAP specialists are available anytime -- 24 hours a day, 365 days a year — no appointment needed. When appropriate, the specialist can connect you with a local professional who can address your concerns in person. They can also help you get care through your Medica plan or affordable community resources.

The EAP provides access to:

  • Five counseling sessions per issue per year covered at 100 percent.
  • Legal and mediation services to help with will and trust preparation, child support or custody concerns, divorce, adoption and more. You receive a 30-minute legal consultation at no cost (in person or over the phone). If you decide to hire an attorney, you’ll get a 25% discount.
  • Help with dependency issues, like alcohol, tobacco, gambling or drugs.
  • A robust collection of interactive resources and information to help with the everyday challenges of work and life. Visit and enter the access code "MEDICA".
  • Child care or elder care support, education and career resources, financial advisor support and more.

This program should not be used for emergency or urgent care needs. In an emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. This program is not a substitute for a doctor’s or professional’s care. Due to the potential for a conflict of interest, legal consultation will not be provided on issues that may involve legal action against Optum or its affiliates, or any entity through which the caller is receiving these services directly or indirectly (e.g., employer or health plan). This program and its components may not be available in all states or for all group sizes and is subject to change. Coverage exclusions and limitations may apply.

Our Employee Assistance Program is provided by Medica Optum®. Medica Optum is optional for self-insured employers and integrated in fully insured plans. Optum is a registered mark of UnitedHealth Group.

Medica’s Employee Assistance Program is not available with all Medica plans. Check with your employer or contact Customer Service at the number on the back of your ID card or online to see if your plan includes the program.
