Welcome Medica Employees

We’re glad you’re with us.

The tools and resources here will help you understand the benefits available to you and your family.

How to enroll or change your benefits

Open enrollment starts in November each year. Plans become effective on January 1. You’ll need to make benefit elections every year, even if you decline coverage or if you want to keep the same coverage.

Please keep an eye out for additional open enrollment info from Human Resources.

Ready to enroll?

New employees have an Initial Enrollment Period to choose benefits. Here’s how to get started:

  1. Sign into Employee Self Service (ESS) through IRIS
  2. Click on “Step 1: Click Here for your benefit elections”

Please note: You have 31 days from your new hire date to make your benefit elections.

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) requires you to make annual benefit choices during your initial enrollment period — but changes are allowed because of certain life events, such as:

  • Change in marital status
  • Having a child
  • A partner losing their employer-provided coverage

These are known as qualified mid-year life events. You’ll be able to make changes to your benefit choices when you have a life event that meets IRS requirements.

To submit benefit changes due to a qualified mid-year life event

  1. Sign in to Employee Self Service (ESS) through IRIS
  2. Select "Step 1: Click Here for your benefit elections"

If you have questions about changing your benefits, please submit a request through the HR Service Center.
